We finally saw the fruits of our labours unfold in Edinburgh last week and judging by the extensive media coverage the event was a huge success both for the delegates and messages that it conveyed. As one of the lead organisers I can look b...more

Despite its growing popularity at home, it still remains the case that most people are most likely to choose seafood when they're eating out in restaurants. So, in this blog I though...more

I've been coming to the European Seafood Exposition for longer than I care to remember. It was nice though to be able to demonstrate to a former associate that it really isn't necessary to share a taxi from the airport to the show as the free shuttle bus works very well (just think of all the money he could have saved over the...more

During a recent visit to Iceland by Jon Harman and myself we were kindly invited by Captain Hilmar Snorrason who is Principal of the Maritime Safety and Training Centre in Reykjavik, aboard their training vessel.
This fine ship was once a car ferry which was bought for £10 and then converted into a mobile training vessel by local fishing companies, fishermen, engineers and donations from interested parties. The vessel delivers courses all aro...more

Current
issues affecting the aquaculture industry were once more at the

forum for exchange of information, bringing together bodies from
across the fish farming supply chain.
The future of the UK aquaculture ...more

Research by my colleague, Karen Galloway (Head of Marketing at Seafish) and her team consistently shows that consumers now have a good understanding of the significant health benefits of consuming fish oils. Karen explored in her blog last year some of the issues around the choice between taking pi...more

As we all remember so well, on 11 March 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the east coast of Japan caused a major tsunami which also hit the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The massive damage and subsequent fire-fighting activities released radioactive material into surrounding land areas and the sea.

New
selectivity measures and how the fishing industry is really trying
to 'gear-up' to reduce discards was one of the key themes at the
latest Seafish-facilitated Discard Action Group meeting, held in
Defra's offices in London last week.
This group meets three to four times a year and acts as forum for comment and consensus on what needs to be done to drive the changes necessary to reduce discards. The meeting was very well ...more
