The Board

The Seafish Board consists of nine non-executive roles comprised of Chair and Deputy Chair, who are independent of the UK seafood industry, two further independent members and five industry representatives. 

There are also four executive board members, who work together with the non-exec directors to strategically to shape the direction and policies of the organisation. The non-executive directors are appointed by the UK's four government fisheries administrations.

Seafish has three advisory Sector Panels; Domestic and Exporters, Importers and Processors, and Supply Chain and Consumers. The members of these Panels are drawn from all industry sectors and provide advice and recommendations to the Board on the activities and resources for Seafish operations.

Acting Chair - Independent Board Member

Brian is a qualified chartered management accountant and currently Chairman of the Beverley Building Society a local Building Society serving the community for over 150 years. Brian is also a non-executive director of Ripon Select Foods a family business providing ingredients to the food industry.

He is also non-executive director of Thera Trust, a charity that has been supporting people with a learning disability since 1998 and Chairs their Audit Committee.

Brian had a long career in the food industry, before retiring in March 2017, serving as Chief Executive for British Frozen Food Federation the trade body for the frozen food industry, Chief Executive of Sundora Foods, Chief Executive of Aunt Bessie's, Finance Director for Sara Lee and Strategy Manager for RHM Foods Ltd.

Brian has previously served Seafish as chairman of the Seafish Importers and Processors Panel, Deputy Chair and took over as acting chair on January 1, 2016.

Brian is an independent member of the Seafish Board.

Independent Board Member

Alison has more than 25 years of consumer affairs experience, having led sustainability, environmental, food safety, corporate and public affairs work for Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd.  She established her own sustainability consultancy practice in 2009.  

She completed two terms as a Trustee of the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) in Autumn 2017 and is currently on the Board of the Green Alliance.  Alison chaired the Defra appointed, Seafood Industry Expert Group, from 2016 to 2018 which resulted in a 25 year plan for a thriving seafood industry in England - Seafood 2040, a strategic framework for England.   She is chair of the Soil Association Certification Scrutiny Committee and also the SGS Independent Advisory Committee on Climate change for SGS UK Ltd.   

She was awarded the OBE in 2000 for services to sustainable development.

Peter Hajipieris has over 28 years of experience within the food and seafood industry, with senior roles in commercial, quality, technical, sustainability and external affairs at Sainsbury's, Tesco, Birds Eye Iglo and Nomad Foods. Peter is globally known for his contribution to sustainable development within the industry and currently leads a food strategy consultancy. Peter is also supervisory Board Member of the Global Seafood Sustainability Initiative (GSSSI)

Jonathan Shepherd qualified as a veterinarian in 1969 before embarking on an aquaculture career initially in academic research on fish health and husbandry. After moving into industry he worked with Marine Harvest and Unilever, then in general management roles related to pharmaceuticals, fish feed, fish farming, etc., based in the UK, Spain and Denmark. His more recent positions were as MD of the BioMar Group, then Director General of the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation. Since retiring in 2011 he has held non-executive board positions in the USA and UK and is a trustee of the Fishermen's Mission living in London.

Michael Mitchell has worked in the seafood industry for more than 35 years. He is currently Managing Director of Fair Seas Limited, a consultancy firm supporting the seafood industry with clients including major value added processors, national and international retailers, food service providers, sustainability standards owners and certification assessment bodies. Previous to founding Fair Seas Limited, he was Technical & CSR Director at Young's Seafood Ltd.

 

Nathan de Rozarieux

Nathan de Rozarieux is currently Managing Director of Tegen Mor Fisheries Consultants Limited a firm offering a range of industry services. He is the owner-skipper of an inshore vessel operating in Cornwall, a position he has frequently returned to alongside roles at Seafish and WWF-UK. For the past 16 years Nathan has sat as a director of the Duchy Fish Quota Company, a not-for-profit seeking to support the Cornwall inshore fishing industry and is a former committee member of the Cornwall Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority.
