The Board

The Seafish Board consists of nine non-executive roles comprised of Chair and Deputy Chair, who are independent of the UK seafood industry, two further independent members and five industry representatives.

There are also four executive board members, who work together with the non-exec directors to strategically to shape the direction and policies of the organisation. The non-executive directors are appointed by the UK's four government fisheries administrations.

Seafish has three advisory Sector Panels; Domestic and Exporters, Importers and Processors, and Supply Chain and Consumers. The members of these Panels are drawn from all industry sectors and provide advice and recommendations to the Board on the activities and resources for Seafish operations.

Acting Chair - Independent Board Member

Brian is a qualified chartered management accountant and currently a non-executive director of the Beverley Building Society where he serves on the Assets & Liabilities and Audit & Risk Committees. He is the Beverley Building Society's chairman designate and will assume the role on 27 April 2015. Brian has been chief executive of the British Frozen Food Federation since 2006, following a business career with RHM Foods, Sara Lee, Tryton Foods and Sundora Foods. He is a non-executive director of Thera Trust, a charity that has been supporting people with a learning disability since 1998.

As an appointed Seafish board member Brian will relinquish his role as chairman of the Seafish Importers and Processors Panel. Brian took over as acting chair on January 1, 2016.

Independent Board Member

Alison has more than 25 years of consumer affairs experience, having led sustainability, environmental, food safety, corporate and public affairs work for Sainsbury's supermarkets. Alison established her own consultancy practice in 2009. Alison is a Trustee of the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and was a member of the Sustainable Access to Inshore Fisheries Advisory Group (SAIF). She was awarded the OBE in 2000 for services to sustainable development.    

 

Clare Dodgson

Independent Board Member

Formerly a Chief Operating Officer of Job Centre Plus, Chief Executive of the Legal Services Commission and a Chief Executive in the NHS, Clare Dodgson has many years of experience as a non-executive director. Clare is also an external complaints reviewer for the Parliamentary and Health Services Ombudsman, a public appointments ambassador for the Government Equalities Office, a member of the Regulation and Compliance Board and an independent executive coach and mentor.

 

Peter Hajipieris

Industry Board Member

Peter Hajipieris has over 28 years of experience in the seafood industry, and is currently the Chief Technical, Sustainability and External Affairs Officer at Birds Eye. Peter is a big supporter of sustainable fisheries development, and is a member of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council Supervisory Board founded by WWF & IDH (Dutch Sustainability Initiative).

Industry Board Member

Michael Park currently holds many executive and non-executive positions on various boards across the industry; he is the Chief Executive of the Scottish White Fish Producers Association (SWFPA) and the Director and Vice Chairman of the North Sea Regional Advisory Council. Michael has spent 26 years as a skipper and owner, and recently received the WWF Award for Conservation Merit.

 

Stephen Parry

Stephen Parry is Technical Advisor to Findus Group, having previously been their Technical Director. He chairs the Food Sector group of the Biosciences Knowledge Transfer Network and the Food and Drink Federation Seafood Group. Having worked for over 37 years in senior operations and technical roles for Unilever, United Biscuits and Young's Seafood, he has played an instrumental role in developing the Findus Group's wider corporate social responsibility.

Jonathan Shepherd

Industry Board Member

Jonathan developed his industrial career with companies in the UK and overseas, including Omega Protein Inc (USA), BioMar AS (Denmark) and Marine Harvest (UK). He is a former director general of the London-based International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation. Jonathan's industrial career followed an early, academic pathway. Holding a veterinary science degree and a PhD in aquacultural economics, he was deputy director of Stirling University's Aquatic Pathobiology Unit and has advised governments in India, Africa and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.    

 

James Wilson

A marine scientist by education, James Wilson has been involved in the culture of mussels in Wales and Northern Ireland for the past decade. James is Director of The Menai Strait Fishery Order Management Association, Director of Bangor Mussel Producers Ltd. and Chairman of the Shellfish Association of Great Britain Mollusc Committee.
