Seafish to launch TESS: Tools for Ethical Seafood Sourcing at Seafood Expo Global in Brussels

21 April 2017

Seafish, the industry authority on seafood, will be attending the forthcoming Seafood Expo Global in Brussels to provide briefings on Seafish initiatives, alongside launching their latest tool TESS: Tools for Ethical Seafood Sourcing.

TESS is a comprehensive online signposting tool, directing users to a large number of free resources that can be used to manage social risks in seafood supply chains. TESS supports socially responsible business practices, helping businesses to better understand what is required to address any issues within their supply chains.

Libby Woodhatch, Head of Advocacy at Seafish, will be running a live demonstration of TESS at each briefing, with the first being held on Tuesday 25 April at 11am and the second on Wednesday 26 April at 2pm.

Libby Woodhatch, said: "Seafood Expo Global is the world's largest seafood trade fare, making it a fantastic platform for us to launch our newest tool, TESS.

There are many sources of information available on ethical issues in the seafood supply chain which can be challenging to navigate and understand. We've created TESS to help seafood businesses address social responsibility issues in their supply chain, helping them to better understand this complex landscape."

At the briefings, Seafish experts will also cover topics including the Seafish Responsible Fishing Scheme and its move to internationalisation and developments in the online Risk Assessment for Sourcing Seafood (RASS) Tool (including new aquaculture profiles). In addition, an update on Seafish's joint work with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch programme and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership will be provided, giving insight into the development of the first risk assessment tool
for social responsibility in fisheries.

The world's largest seafood trade event takes place at the Brussel's Expo from 25 to 27 April, featuring more than 1,700 exhibitors from over 75 countries.  Seafish have space available at stand number 8-4543 for UK stakeholders to hold meetings throughout the three days of the expo.
