Seafish Responds to MCS Haddock Downgrade

Last year, The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) reported a fall in haddock stocks in the North Sea and West of Scotland waters.  This finding resulted in the EU and Norway agreeing to reduce haddock catches for 2017.

These fisheries are carefully managed under the EU Common Fisheries Policy in conjunction with Norway under the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) principle. This ensures consumers can continue to eat sustainable haddock knowing that it has been well managed. The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified North Sea Haddock as sustainable in October 2010. Re-certification was gained in May 2016.
