Billingsgate, which is the UK's largest inland fish market, will be running market visits, fish cooking and filleting classes, as well as educational outreach events in schools, in a bid to raise awareness of Seafood Week and encourage more people to eat more fish. They will also be explaining the importance of eating seafood and the health benefits of having two portions of fish each week.

Billingsgate Seafood School CEO CJ Jackson said: "Seafood Week is a really important event for Billingsgate, and the UK seafood industry, and we are very excited to be holding these special events as part of the campaign.

"We will be educating people of all ages about fish and shellfish throughout the eight days, and working with Seafish to encourage more people to choose seafood when they are doing the weekly food shop, eating out in restaurants, or ordering takeaway."

Billingsgate's education events add to the programme of education events that Seafish have planned for Seafood Week. Schools up and down the country will be visited by Seafish representatives who will highlight the many health benefits of eating seafood and introducing some of youngsters to seafood for the very first time.

Seafish's Marketing Manager Heather Middleton said: "We are excited to be working with The Seafood School at Billingsgate to host a series of school events as part of Seafood Week.

"It is very important that consumers understand the health benefits of seafood and get the opportunity to taste and enjoy fish and what better way to do this than start from a young age in the classroom.

"We know that many people still do not feel confident cooking with seafood and that there is a lack of understanding among the general public about the importance of eating two portions of fish a week for our health. These educational events will help to educate people about these key messages and lead to more people eating more fish more often."

The annual eight-day campaign, which runs from Friday, October 6 to Friday, October 13, celebrates the quality and variety of fish and shellfish on offer in the UK and champions the seafood industry with the aim of encouraging the general public to eat more fish more often.

All businesses and organisations involved in the seafood industry are welcome to become campaign partners, and Billingsgate has become the latest to do so. Lidl, Morrisons, Hilton Worldwide, and Saucy Fish Co. have all also shown their support for the campaign by signing up as partners. To sign up, visit www.seafoodweek.co.uk or contact Seafish's marketing team.

The partnership gives businesses campaign support from organisers Seafish who have created a range of collateral for businesses to use free of charge. In addition to this, Seafish will also work with partners' social media channels to boost their engagement levels. If organisations are putting on events for Seafood Week or promoting specific products, Seafish staff will also work with businesses to help them maximise the opportunity. Organisations and businesses looking to sign up to Seafood Week can do so by visiting www.seafoodweek.co.uk or contacting Seafish at seafoodweek@seafish.co.uk.
