Food Careers event   10am - 4pm Thursday 2nd February 2017at the Grimsby Institute

Why be involved? We know we need to encourage people into the seafood sector with many businesses struggling to recruit. The perception of the industry is often a barrier and many are not aware of the different opportunities available in the Seafood Industry from NPD, regulation, technology and buying, there are many career opportunities.
 
Benefits to Employers

  • Opportunity to meet students across a range of different courses (Network Opportunity). The Grimsby Institute  enrols several thousand students each year, so therefore would be access to learners from relevant areas.
  • Show identified career routes for students completing courses and progressing to employment.
  • Access to skilled learners to discuss career opportunities available.
  • Demonstrate the practical activities in the workplace, to raise profile of sector and interest.
  • Identify talent and capability of potential workforce for the future skills requirements.
  • A chance to meet students informally and deal with questions, whilst breaking down barriers about the sector and the opportunities.
  • Advertise roles that are available or coming up in their businesses.

Involvement of Employers

  • Provide a stand and the time to meet with students who are looking for roles and careers, with roles available.
  • Give practical demonstrations to showcase the sector to students including the range of roles.
  • Be available to give practical talk on things to consider when applying and talking to businesses.
  • Possible for employers the raise profile of the sector.
  • Provide information and stats on sector.

Additional information:

  • The one day event for the Seafood sector will focus on the promotion of careers in the sector - from sea to plate.
  • Seafood and associated companies are invited to exhibit, speak and have stand space - all free of charge.
  • During the day there will be a set agenda, including key note speakers (including FDF), presentations, demonstrations.
  • Industry related films showcased and talks will be organised.
  • The event will be open to all; 1500 HE students, 3000 FE students, job centre candidates and local schools including the 6th form Academy.
  • Networking opportunities for the Seafood businesses attending will be organised including a seafood lunch.
