Welcome onboard Seafood Fortnight 2008. These pages will provide you with all the news and details of events taking place throughout Seafood Fortnight.

Seafood Fortnight is a celebration of seafood and the many benefits that it offers.

Seafood Week ran for seven years and has been so successful that this year we've decided to extend the run to a fortnight, providing the perfect platform for concentrated cross-sector industry activity to promote the many benefits of eating seafood.

Phil Vickery, Nick Nairn, Brian Turner, Mitch Tonks and Jo Pratt have all already signed up to get involved in Seafood Fortnight, which will run from 5 - 21 September. These and other supporters will be extolling the benefits of Seafood as the perfect health food.

The benefits of seafood are well documented, providing an important source of protein, vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids. Of course there are the added benefits that it's quick and easy to cook and can be used to make a wide variety of different dishes.

Seafood is incredibly important to the UK economy with consumption continuing to grow. As at January 2004, research states that UK consumers spent just over £725 million on frozen fish, an increase of 4.9% compared to the 52 weeks ending January 2003. UK consumers spent over £1 billion on chilled fish, an increase of 12.7% compared to the same period in 2003.

A vast array of events will be staged during Seafood Fortnight, including tastings and promotional activity within supermarkets, hotels, restaurants and other outlets to ensure that the public’s attention is focused on the important role seafood should play in our diet.
